The Canadian Hakomi Leadership Team has a vision to contribute to world peace and personal and community healing through offering an experiential approach to self and other awareness, along with the practice of Loving Presence, personhood development, and the experiential personal and interpersonal healing practices of the Hakomi Method. This is provided through individual, couple and group therapy, mentoring, various open workshops, retreats, leadership development, and one, two and three-year trainings in the Hakomi Experiential Method.
Donna’s personal vision is to support trainings in Canada, Seattle, Mexico, England, Japan, Norway, Germany, Switzerland, Spain and Argentina, but mainly to shift her focus to mentoring trainers, teachers and leaders in each location. She is also completing work on a book on the Practice of Loving Presence, as well as developing manuals and other written and video teaching materials. Her book, Embodied Mindfulness: the Hakomi Way, is soon to be published in English and Spanish. A series of video demonstration sessions will also soon be available.
Canadian Hakomi Leadership Team Members:
Katie Askew has been studying Hakomi with Vancouver Hakomi Educational Network since 2004. She has studied under Bob Milone, Jeff Chernove, Georgia Marvin, Marcia Burton, Donna Martin, and Ron Kurtz. She became a certified Hakomi Therapist in 2007 and began teaching in 2011.
Katie brings with her an attitude of openness and support. Her joy and love are visible and infectious. A student of self-discovery for over 30 years, her curiosity and deep appreciation for learning more about herself makes it easier for others to self-study.
Kenny Askew began studying Hakomi in 2004 with the Vancouver Hakomi Education Network, was certified as a Hakomi Therapist in 2007, and began teaching Hakomi in 2011.
He has been on a path of self-discovery, pursuing his own spirituality for over 30 years. He became a Licensed Massage Practitioner in 2000 and has been a Master Builder for over thirty years. Kenny spent many years as a competitive athlete. He raced bicycles, Olympic kayaks, surf-skis and outrigger canoes. He did the Hawaiian Ironman Triathlon twice and paddled the Molokai channel four times. Though competitive athletics is a thing of the past, the exploration of mind, body and spirit continues to be a driving force in his life.
Kenny considers himself incredibly fortunate to have a partner in Katie, who, for the last 38 years, has shared his interest in the healing arts and personal exploration. Both love assisting others in their own exploration and self-discovery. Kenny and Katie live in Friday Harbor, WA, have two daughters and two granddaughters, which are the light of their lives.
Angela Davis has been studying Hakomi since 2004 with the Vancouver Hakomi Education Network. She has also trained with Ron Kurtz and Donna Martin and was certified as a Hakomi Therapist in 2007.
In her life and her work, she has been cultivating compassion, serving others and herself with a deeper understanding of loving presence. Supporting the Vancouver training as an assistant and supporting the growth of Hakomi continues to be a joy and main endeavor for Angela. She has opened a private Hakomi practice in Kamloops and welcomes new clients.
Donna Martin, from BC, Canada, is a certified Hakomi practitioner and international trainer who worked closely with Ron Kurtz (the creator of the Hakomi Method) for the last twenty years of his life. She was named in his will as one of seven "legacy holders" of his work and is a senior person in the international training association he created before his death, now called the Hakomi Education Network. Donna has many years of experience as a body psychotherapist, stress management specialist, yoga and meditation teacher, and addictions counsellor.
Now mostly retired, Donna has led Hakomi trainings and/or yoga retreats throughout Canada and the United States, Hawaii, Japan, Europe, Indonesia, South America, and Mexico. She developed an original approach she calls “psoma yoga therapy" which integrates yoga and Hakomi (mindfulness-based assisted self-discovery). Donna has written many books and e-books, and is the co-author (with Paul Brenner M.D.) of Seeing Your Life Through New Eyes, describing their original Family Triangles process for reviewing personal history and supporting insightful forgiveness and healing relationships. Donna also co-authored a soon-to-be published book with Ron Kurtz called the Practice of Loving Presence as well as Embodied Mindfulness: the Hakomi Way, which will be published in English and Spanish.
Bob Milone lives on a boat in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. He is a Certified Hakomi Therapist and Trainer. He has studied for over ten years with two gifted therapists; Ron Kurtz creator of the Hakomi method, and Donna Martin Senior Hakomi Trainer. He is the father of two grown sons, and a woodworker. In the past five years he has facilitated workshops and trainings in Canada, the US, Mexico, and England. As well as teaching, he currently has a private practice in Victoria where he works with individuals and couples. He donates time at a local non profit agency that offers counseling to low income families, and he is also staff counsellor for students and faculty at Spring Street School in Friday Harbor Washington.
"Together,
the principles of Hakomi, and the skills which they encompass,
are a powerful framework for self study. As such they are a deeply respectful
method of psychotherapy that recognizes the innate wisdom of every
human. At the same time, they are a personal practice which continues to
impact the quality of my life."
